📖 How to Read Your Zi Wei Dou Shu Chart
1 Step 1 — Enter Your Birth Information ▼
- Enter your birth date using the date picker.
- Select your birth hour (Shichen) — this is the most critical input. Even a 2-hour difference can completely change your Life Palace and alter the entire chart.
- Select your gender — this determines whether your Major Life Cycles run forward or backward through the palaces.
- Optionally search your birth city to apply automatic timezone correction. If you were born in a different country or far from UTC, this step matters for accuracy.
- Click "Calculate Zi Wei Chart" to generate your personal destiny map.
💡 If you don't know your exact birth hour, try two adjacent time slots and see which chart better reflects your personality and life experiences.
2 Step 2 — Reading the Destiny Chart (命盤) ▼
The chart shows 12 Palaces arranged in a 4×4 grid with a center cell. Each palace governs a different domain of your life, and the stars within each palace color how that domain unfolds.
The center panel shows your birth date, lunar date, current Da Xian ages, and the current annual year ganzhi at a glance.
Click any palace cell to open a detailed popup with star descriptions, Si Hua explanations, and an AI deep reading button.

| 官祿 Career | Career path, reputation, achievements, and public recognition |

3 Step 3 — Understanding the 14 Main Stars ▼
- Purple stars = Zi Wei group (紫微系) — Emperor lineage. These carry authority, strategy, and outward-facing energy.
- Gold stars = Tian Fu group (天府系) — Treasury lineage. These carry stability, support, and inward-gathering energy.
- Each palace can hold zero to three main stars. Multiple stars interact and modify each other's expressions.
- Empty palaces are not weak — they draw energy from the opposite palace (6 positions away). An empty Life Palace with powerful opposite stars can be very strong.
4 Step 4 — The Four Transformations (四化 Si Hua) ▼
Si Hua are the most powerful modifiers in the chart. They are determined by your birth year's Heavenly Stem and activate exactly four stars — assigning one of four transformation types to each.
Badges with dashed borders and italic text are Annual Si Hua — this year's overlay on your natal chart. When a palace has both natal and annual Si Hua, the energies compound.
5 Step 5 — Da Xian (大限) Major Life Cycles ▼
Your life is divided into 12 cycles of 10 years each. Each decade activates a different palace, which becomes your temporary destiny center for that period — layering on top of your natal chart.
- The starting age depends on your Wu Xing Ju (五行局 Element Set), which is derived from your birth year's Nayin. Possible starting ages: 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
- Yang male / Yin female → cycles move forward (順行, clockwise through the grid)
- Yin male / Yang female → cycles move backward (逆行, counter-clockwise)
- The red solid border on the chart marks which palace is currently active.
- Use the accordion table below the chart to see all 12 decades. Click any decade row to expand and see all 10 annual fortunes within it.
💡 When a Da Xian palace contains your natal 化祿 (Hua Lu), that decade tends to bring prosperity and smooth sailing. When it contains 化忌 (Hua Ji), approach that decade's challenges with extra mindfulness.
6 Step 6 — Liu Nian (流年) Annual Fortune ▼
Each calendar year, a different palace becomes the annual active palace (太歲宮 Tai Sui Gong). The annual palace is determined by the year's Earthly Branch cycling through your chart.
- The blue dashed border on the chart shows this year's active palace — the 太歲 badge appears in the corner.
- Annual Si Hua (dashed badges) show this year's four transformations layered over the natal chart. These shift every year and indicate which stars are currently "lit up."
- When the annual palace overlaps with your current Da Xian palace, the energy compounds — this is often a pivotal, high-impact year.
- When the annual palace is your Life Palace (命宮), personal identity and major decisions come into focus that year.
- Expand any Da Xian row in the table below the chart to see a year-by-year breakdown of every annual palace and its Si Hua within that decade.
7 Step 7 — Using the AI Reading ▼
- Select one of the five reading categories: Overall / Career / Love / Wealth / Health, then click "Get AI Reading."
- The AI analyzes your full chart including the Life Palace stars, Si Hua placements, current Da Xian palace, and the annual fortune — not just generic keywords.
- For palace-specific insights: click any palace on the chart → the detail popup will appear → click "🤖 AI Deep Reading for this Palace." This focuses the reading on that one life domain.
- Readings are generated using classical Zi Wei Dou Shu principles applied to your specific chart data.
- Each reading is unique to your chart — the same palace on two different charts can produce very different interpretations depending on the stars present.
💡 Tip: Run the same category multiple times and compare — AI readings can surface different nuances of the same chart each time.
