About Ondo Destiny
My name is Ondo Choi, and I am a Korean researcher based in South Korea with a lifelong fascination with Eastern metaphysical traditions — particularly BaZi (四柱推命, Four Pillars of Destiny), the I Ching (易經), Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗數), and the classical Chinese art of reading destiny through time and pattern.
Ondo Destiny was born from a simple frustration: most English-language content on BaZi is either too shallow to be genuinely useful, or too academic to be accessible to everyday readers. I wanted to build something in between — a place where serious, research-backed analysis meets writing that anyone can follow.
My Background & Approach
I have been studying classical Korean and Chinese destiny systems — known in Korea as Myeongrihak (명리학) — for over a decade, working primarily from the original classical texts rather than modern simplified summaries. My study has focused on:
- Sanming Tonghui (三命通會) — the Ming Dynasty BaZi compendium that forms the foundation of my analytical approach
- Ziping Zhenquan (子平真詮) — the classical work on chart structures (格局, Ge Ju)
- Di Tian Sui (滴天髓) — the Qing Dynasty text on Useful God theory
- I Ching and its commentaries — including the Ten Wings and classical Liu Yao (六爻) coin-casting methods
I approach these traditions as a researcher and enthusiast, not as a professional fortune teller or certified practitioner. The content on this site reflects my personal study and interpretation of classical texts, with an emphasis on intellectual honesty over mystical authority.
What Makes Ondo Destiny Different
There are many English-language BaZi sites on the internet, and most of them share the same problem: they repeat the same surface-level information that has been copied from one site to the next for years. Ondo Destiny takes a different approach in three specific ways:
1. Classical Standard for Hidden Stems
Most English-language BaZi resources follow the Joey Yap standard for hidden stems (藏干), which is a modern simplified system. Ondo Destiny follows the classical Sanming Tonghui standard used in traditional Korean and Chinese practice. For example, the Earthly Branch Hai (亥) contains three hidden stems in the Sanming Tonghui standard:
- Wu Earth (戊土) — Residual Qi (餘氣)
- Jia Wood (甲木) — Middle Qi (中氣)
- Ren Water (壬水) — Primary Qi (正氣)
This distinction matters — it changes how a chart’s structure, Useful God, and Ten Gods relationships are analyzed. If you have read BaZi content elsewhere and something felt inconsistent, the hidden stems standard is often the reason.
2. Original Celebrity Chart Research
Rather than recycling the same generic chart examples, I produce an ongoing Celebrity BaZi Research Series where I analyze the Four Pillars of well-known public figures in depth — complete with chart structure (格局) identification, Five Elements balance, Luck Pillar timing, and my own interpretive commentary. Recent entries include:
- Jensen Huang — NVIDIA CEO
- Warren Buffett — the Oracle of Omaha
- Steve Jobs — Apple co-founder
- Greg Abel — Buffett’s designated successor
- Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi — a comparative chart study
- Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, BTS members, Tiger Woods, Donald Trump, Elon Musk
Each analysis reflects my own reading of the chart, grounded in classical principles — not AI-generated text or content copied from other sources.
3. Korean Perspective on Chinese Classics
Korean Myeongrihak scholarship has preserved and developed the classical Chinese BaZi tradition in distinctive ways, and much of this material has never been translated into English. When relevant, I bring these Korean interpretive perspectives into my writing — offering readers a viewpoint they will not find elsewhere in the English-speaking world.

A Note on Interpretation
BaZi, I Ching, Zi Wei Dou Shu, and Liu Yao are ancient frameworks for understanding pattern, timing, and human nature. Whether you approach them as metaphysical truth, psychological tools, or cultural heritage, I believe they have something genuinely useful to offer.
Nothing on this site is intended as a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice. The tools and readings are offered for self-reflection and cultural exploration, not as predictions of fixed outcomes. Your choices remain your own.
